SCRIPTURES:   Jonah 1:1-17

BOTTOM LINE:  We Can Run, but We Can’t Hide!

QUESTION:  Have you ever found yourslef in a situation where you were willing to grant Grace and Mercy to someone (or some group of people) but not to others?

DOWNLOAD:    JONAH’s name translates as DOVE … which signifies a messenger … and the Bible tells us that Jonah was the Son of Amittai which means TRUTH … so Jonah was a Messenger of TRUTH … so it shouldn’t be shocking when the Bible says that the Word of the Lord came to Jonah, because that was common for a prophet, especially a Messenger of Truth

So Jonah receives the Word of the Lord … and tells others about God’s Truth … that’s what Prophets did … but Jonah is asked to reveal God’s Truth to this group of people that he couldn’t stand … I mean, maybe they were Aggies?  Or from Oklahoma?  Or Laker Fans … whatever the case, God tells Jonah that he can either go warn the wicked people to repent … or … DIE!

If we can learn anything from Jonah’s story here in chapter 1 … it’s this … We Can Run, but We Can’t Hide!  We can’t escape God … no matter how hard we try … God is always going to be there.

God is constantly pursuing us … and desperately desires for us to experience His Unconditional Love … Yeah … we’ve messed up many times … and we’ll see thru Jonah’s journey that we can Stop Running … and Repent … turn around and Run Towards God instead of Running Away from Him … and His Grace will be sufficient for us just like it was w/ Jonah.

Jonah was willing to do the work of God … as long as he agreed w/ the MISSION God called him to go on … and maybe that’s us sometimes?  Maybe God’s asked us to share His Goodness and Grace and Mercy w/ someone specifically … or to pray for someone specifically … and we just can’t do it … because we don’t feel like they deserve it … or we just couldn’t forgive them for what they’ve done!

And here’s what’s crazy … we’re pretty quick to jump on the judgment bandwagon w/ people who rape and murder and all that … Line ‘em up and give ‘em the Death Penalty right?  How many of us want to give them a 2nd chance?  Especially if it’s impacted us on a very personal level.

But … just like Jonah … we have no real understanding of God’s Grace!

No matter how bad someone’s Sin is … and no matter what Sins they commit … God’s Grace is there for them just as His Grace is there for you and me … and God wanted Jonah and the Ninevites to understand that …
