TEACHER:  Ken Hicks

SCRIPTURES: James 4:1-2

BOTTOM LINE:   We BELIEVE God’s Presence and God’s Power and God’s Bride are to be connected to God in Prayer … but we often BEHAVE so differently!

QUESTION:  Why is it So Challenging & Intimidating for the Body of Christ to Pray Together like the Early Church?

Have you ever had a time … or area … in your life where you knew 1 thing … you actually believed it to be BEST … but our Actions responded differently?

John Mott was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize of 1946.  For all his achievements, Mott was bold to make 1 thing clear.  This is what he said:

More important than the most earnest thinking about Problem, more important than a personal interview to influence and individual, more important than addressing and swaying an audience – far more important than these and all other forms of activity is the act of coming into vital communion w/ God.

Mott believed that not only is PRAYER a weapon of the Saints … he acted on that Prayer!

Why is it these days that Praying Togetheris often the Spare Tire we pull out from under the mat in the trunk … when something goes wrong … as opposed to the Steering Wheel we use in the daily direction of our Churches and Lives?

James said it this way … James 4:1-2 …“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God.”

  1. We Do Not See Prayer as Relational.
  2. We Don’t Perceive the Separating Power of Tolerated Sin.
  3. We Don’t Understand PRAYER Prepares us for Spiritual Warfare.
  4. We Crowd Out PRAYER with Other Things.
  5. We Think We Can Handle Things Ourselves.

I love the lyric of that old Hymn, What a Friend We Have In Jesus

Oh what peace we often forfeit? Oh, what needless pain we bear. All because we do not carry, everything to God in Prayer.

God is scanning the room, and He so desires to discover those who will passionately and persistently seek Him!

He never stops searching.  He never misses an opportunity any time … any where … to demonstrate His Power on our behalf of those of us who are leaning into Him, and His Heart and His Desires and His Mission in the World!

He’s ready when we’re ready to lean into HIM instead of leaning into US.

And corporately … collectively … God’s seeking His Church that longs for Him.  That cries out to Him seeking for Him to do a mighty work IN-Us,  and THROUGH-US.  I believe His Power is waiting to explode, the more our BEHAVIOR can match our BELIEFS.
