And Today … we’re going to look at Foreign Policy … and what really is Foreign Policy?

I believe  we are called by Jesus to Distribution Center of the Gospel … the Good News of Jesus … we are called as citizens of God’s Kingdom to allow our life to serve as a living Portrait of the Grace and Love and Mercy of God … and overflow that picture for the entire world to see!

That’s our calling.  As God’s Bride, as His Church,  we’re a part of a calling that is so much bigger than anything most of us think about often, and yet eternity and Abundant Life are at stake!

And so how does that intersect w/ Foreign Policy?

One definition of Foreign Policy is a government’s strategy for dealing w/ other Nations.

Another definition was … consists of self-interest strategies chosen by the state to safeguard its national interests and to achieve goals within its international relations milieu.

These strategies are then implemented as we interact w/ other countries.

Webster defines Foreign Policy as the policy of a Sovereign State in its interaction w/ another Sovereign State.

President Washington and President Jefferson said we should have Peace, Commerce, and Honesty w/ nations, and we are to avoid entangling alliances with all nations, and we should not allow any foreign influence in our land.

APPLICATION:

  1. GO!

Matthew 28:18-20 “18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore GO and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Can I just confess to you guys … sometimes I forget that ALL AUTHORITY IN HEAVEN AND EARTH belongs to God’s Kingdom?

Jesus says … EXPECT ACTIVITY …

  1. Go Make Disciples – which could be another entire series to be honest in terms of what makes a disciple? How do we make disciples? Etc …  But God make disciples … not just Good people … or people who follow all the rules … and to be honest, Not Just Christians! It’s not about the BIG DAY of God’s Return as much as it’s about the EVERY DAY of Abundant Life until God calls us Home.

ILLUSTRATION: What is a Disciple?  I love how John Piper defines this process … we are to overflow God’s Love, Grace and Truth into lives in such a way that people transform into a Worshipper, a Servant, & a Witness.

And hear this please … let’s go EXPECTING that kind of transformation in lives!   That’s our strategic mission in terms of how we deal w/ others!

  1. Baptize Them – Part of growing as a Follower of Jesus and a citizen of the Kingdom of God is obeying God’s commands, following Jesus’ example, and publically sharing in Baptism … and notice the order here … we discover God’s Grace and Truth in our lives, we exchange our life w/ the Life, Death and Resurrection of Jesus … and THEN we’re baptized.
  1. TEACH … then starts the process of teaching and growing and discovering more about who we are In-Christ. How to live FROM Christ instead of FOR Him. How to not only secure Eternal Life on the day we die … but to experience the Abundant Life until the day God calls us home.

  1. HOW WE GO!

Secondly … Clearly … we must GO … but How we GO matters too right?

2 Corinthians 5:18-21 “18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

We have a job to do … we’ve been given The Ministry of Reconciliation … how many of us have that on our Business Cards?

  1. TO WHOM?

So we’re supposed to GO … ok … and how we GO matters! I get that … we’re not on our own mission … we are entrusted as Christ’s Ambassadors … so to WHOM are we supposed to GO?

… and we circle right back around … and I’m not making this stuff up … it’s right here!

Matthew 28:19 “19 Therefore GO and make disciples of ALL NATIONS, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit …”

The Greek word here is Ethnos … meaning “people, nation, class, caste, tribe; a number of people accustomed to live together.”

What would it look like if you and I …

  • Loved as Jesus Loved …
  • Taught as Jesus Taught …
  • Expected the transforming work of the Holy Spirit w/in the lives of the people around us.

And what would it look like if …

  • Our foreign Policy was a Radical, Inclusive, Sacrificial Love?
  • And … our weapon is the GOOD NEWS of the Gospel … the life of Jesus on display thru our life?

We’re to take the Gospel … the GOOD NEWS … to ALL PEOPLE!
