BOTTOM LINE:  God’s strategic plan for distributing the Gospel is thru the deployment of His Agents of Gospel Transformation.  We’ve got to be Stable; Moblie; and Ready!

QUESTION:  Are we READY to be deployed?   Have we put on the Belt of Truth, the life of Jesus around us to hold us up?  Have we allowed Christ to purify our heart and make us Righteous and then covered our heart w/ a Breastplate to protect it?  If so … then we’re ready to begin engaging w/ the world, so let’s get our SHOES on and get ready!

In a spirit of Preparation … to prepare our hearts and minds and lives together in some serious training, we have to be ready to deploy as Agents of Gospel Transformation.   We’re going to look at the next piece of Armor.

Now remember … since Followers of Jesus are children of God … the enemy is going to attack us.  We see it in Scripture, God is for us and the devil is against us!

So what do we do? And Paul says in Ephesians 6:13 … “13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when THE day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”

Only the Armor of God can withstand the onslaught our enemy is prepared to fire our way on a daily basis.   Our country has a Missile Defense System, and as Followers of Jesus,  we’ve got to engage our Fiery Dart Defense System from the enemy.

Paul was chained to this soldier 24 hours a day, and he paints for this picture looking at the Sandals the guard must have been wearing.

Ephesians 6:14-15 … “14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.”

One of the Top Priorities for a Soldier at war was to have Good, Dry Shoesbecause your entire body is built upon them!

Preparation here in verse 15 is referring to our FOUNDATION … 4 times in this passage from Paul here to the church in Ephesus we are told to stand … and if a soldier cannot stand, he cannot fight.

Our FOUNDATION is the Gospel!   The Good News of Jesus … and Satan is forever trying to dilute and pollute the Gospel isn’t he? He’s trying to erode away at our Foundation every single day.

STABILITY:  The Hobnails helped the soldier keep his footing … not just for walking & running … but also when it came to engaging in battle w/ the enemy … the Hobnails would keep him from getting knocked over.  What is it in our suit that’s providing stability? How often are we guilty of hearing someone else say something about God’s Word … perhaps even a pastor or Bible Teacher … and the truth is … we just believe everything they tell us as if there were no debate.

MOBILITY:  Caesar wanted his soldiers to have proper shoes to move quickly … they were designed w/ fur inside to keep their feet from getting tired.  Picture those fuzzy, furry slippers of comfort, w/ a good sport shoe on the outside!  This is important!

Because, no matter how skilled the army is,  if they stand still, they will be DEFEATED! Stability is necessary and extremely important,  but so is Mobility.

And here’s how the 2 work together:

  • Stability is our MESSAGE … the Word.
  • Mobility is our METHOD of getting out the MESSAGE:

OPPORTUNITY:  A readiness to carry the message.  The realization that every single day,  everywhere we go, we are His Messenger. The only question is What Kind Of Messenger Was I?

God’s Word says, …   Romans 10:15 … “15 … How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

One of the interesting things about the Soldiers is they kept their shoes on at ALL TIMES … including when they were sleeping!

They were always ready!
